A visionary in the concrete jungle

Some could say art is born out of the need to escape, or the ability to think freely without distraction. Others say art ‘is’ the distraction. Whatever way it’s seen, Tayo Aina is part of a growing evolution of creators and explorers changing the way we perceive content in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
Without any structured skill or formal training, he has honed his craft by watching online tutorials and still very much takes inspiration from other pioneers he considers the greats. Tayo has turned his passion into his every day. He seamlessly switches hats between being a tech entrepreneur (as the founder and CEO of event space renting
platform Spacebook.ng) and an established videographer/director with his visually stunning film projects taking him across the continent and beyond.

Thanks to his burgeoning reputation as a first-class shutterbug and visual artist, it really is no surprise to see he has amassed a dedicated online following on YouTube and Instagram in addition to the attention from press outlets. Tayo has also gone on to rub shoulders with global influencers and celebrities, creating content featuring superstars such as recording artists J.Cole, Wizkid and Davido alongside multiple videos for Nigerian comedian Falz the Bad Guy.

The man himself prefers a very bohemian style to his projects and he prefers to be inspired rather than set to a rigid structure, it’s very clear to see that in the videos he releases. With a focus on visually pulsating areal shots mixed with well timed cuts, viewers are painted broad but still somehow intimate tapestries when with Tayo on his creations and with over a million combined views on social media it’s clear there’s an addictive aura to them that makes you want to see more.

Ever the journeyman, Tayo’s work is centric to the places he visits, people he meets and events that he witnesses. We get to see his world through his eyes and although it may sound cliche, it’s a crystal clear view of people and places at their most natural, it’s warmth in the middle of chaos and a charismatic understanding that life moves differently based on wherever on earth you chose to call home.

Studio Base started working with Tayo and his team in early 2018, it’s been a whirlwind of a connection and we’re hoping to take that further with a few projects across various genres in the pipeline. Very much watch this space, if not for our sake but for that of this creative maven, his opus is on its way and it’d be a shame to miss it.
